The purpose of the cooperative is governed by the provisions of Art. 828 of the Swiss Civil Code (OR) and includes the promotion of the economic and social interests of its members and their members, particularly the cooperative members of the Coop Group Cooperative, in mutual self-help, as well as consumers. COOP takes the necessary precautions to ensure its competitiveness and, thereby, its long-term existence in accordance with market economic, ecological, and ethical principles. COOP operates retail trade as its core business, as well as other activities including upstream stages and necessary services. COOP can engage in other business areas. COOP can establish branches, participate in other companies and organizations domestically and abroad, acquire and found such entities, and finance affiliated companies. It can also undertake all actions that are suitable to promote the company's purpose in any way. COOP can also engage in charitable activities.
